National Children's Dental Health Month

Pediatric Dentistry of Garden City & Glen Cove
Garden City:516-222-5100
Glen Cove: 516-759-7000

Did you know that kids miss 51 million hours of school each year due to tooth related health problems?

February is National Children's Dental Health Month - and we're reminding all parents and kids of the importance of brushing for 2 minutes, 2 times a day!

Taking good care of teeth is essential to health and development, especially at a young age.  Although baby teeth do eventually fall out, they play an important role in helping your child bite, chew food, and speak clearly.  With regular tooth care (brushing and flossing), bi-annual dental cleanings, exams, dental sealants, and x-rays, we can make sure that their teeth are developing into a healthy and beautiful smile.

Having a hard time getting your child interested in their smile health?  The American Dental Association has a few cute dental health print outs for kids to enjoy!

  • Try your hand at a dental themed crossword
  • Figure out what foods are healthy for teeth with this matching game
  • Spend some time coloring in this activity sheet
  • Love word searches?  Try to find the healthy hidden treats here
You can also help keep kids keep track of their brushing habits by marking off two boxes on a calendar every time they brush!  If you don't have a calendar at home, you can print off this checklist to help them fight cavities this month.

Don't forget to enter our Facebook contest for a chance to win a gift basket in honor of National Children's Dental Health Month!

Is it time to schedule your child's biannual cleaning & exam?  You can schedule an appointment by calling 516-222-5100 to reach our Garden City office or 516-759-7000 to reach our Glen Cove office.

National Children's Dental Health Month Quickly Coming To A Close

Pediatric Dentistry of Garden City & Glen Cove

Glen Cove: 516-759-7000

National Children’s Dental Health Month is quickly coming to a close.  What have you done to care for your child’s teeth?  It’s not too late to learn new ways to keep your child’s smile beautiful and healthy from a very young age.  At Pediatric Dentistry of Garden City and Glen Cove, we encourage parents and kids to keep their smiles healthy all year long.
Here are some tips on how to care for tiny teeth:

  • Keep Gums Clean - Wipe gums after meals to get your child used to an oral care routine.
  • Brush Baby Teeth - Start brushing as soon as the first tooth appears.  Use a baby sized brush and a smear of toothpaste to clean the tooth.
  • Avoid Baby Bottle Decay - When babies fall asleep with their bottle, the sugary drink eats away at the tooth enamel.  Just like in adults, this can result in cavities.  Keep your baby’s mouth clean by wiping the gums and brushing new baby teeth after each feeding.
  • Visit our Office - Schedule your child’s first dental visit during the first six months after the first tooth erupts.

Get Your Children Involved in Dental Health Month!

Pediatric Dentistry of Garden City
516-222-5100

February is National Children’s Dental Health month! This month, we really want to spread the word about just how important it is to develop healthy dental habits at a young age!

If you’re looking for a few ways to get your children involved in dental health month, how about having a dental health crafting partyGather your children and their friends and get crafting on dental health collagesGive each child at the party a toothbrush, piece of dental floss and pictures of mouthwash. Along with these items, all you’ll need is construction paper, glue and markers. Help each child glue the toothbrush, mouthwash pictures and floss to a piece of paper. When each item is glued to the paper, have the children write down why each tool is important.

This is a great way to remind them why each tool is so important for their overall dental health!

Let us know if you have any dental health crafting ideas on our Facebook page, linked HERE!
