Pediatric Dentistry of Garden City & Glen Cove
Garden City:516-222-5100
Glen Cove: 516-759-7000

Do you plan on making a delicious spread of snacks for this Sunday’s big game? We sure hope so. After all, what’s the Super Bowl without delicious food to munch on?

However, some of the items you choose to serve up in between the touchdowns and field goals may not be appealing to your little ones.

Setting up a “slider bar” is the perfect way to keep the kiddies occupied and tummy’s full! All you have to do is prepare the burgers beforehand and leave the rest to your guest’s imagination.

Here is what you will need to setup the perfect Super Bowl Slider Bar:
  • Mini Hamburgers
  • Mini Turkey Burgers
  • Mini Veggie Burgers
  • Slider Buns
  • Bacon or Turkey Bacon
  • Cheese of your choice (Try Cheddar or American – usually kid-friendly)
  • Pickles
  • Onions
  • Lettuce
  • Tomatoes
  • Ketchup
  • Mustard
  • BBQ Sauce
Let us know if your burger bar scores big with the kids this Super Bowl Sunday on our Facebook page! Enjoy the game!

Cold And Flu Season Tips

Pediatric Dentistry of Garden City & Glen Cove

Glen Cove: 516-759-7000

Cold and flu season is among us and as much as we try to fight it, sometimes it can't be escaped. Luckily, there are a few things that can be done to help keep you and your children healthy during this time of year.

  • If you see your child sneezing or coughing frequently, be sure they're covering their mouth with a tissue.
  • Make sure your child washes their hands with soap and water or using hand sanitizer frequently though out the day. Germs can spread quickly.
  • After touching any surfaces or toys, be sure your children are washing their hands. It's also a good idea to wipe down all surfaces and toys throughout the day.
  • If your child is sick, have them stay home from school and all outside activities to avoid infecting other children and making their illness worse.
How do you keep your children healthy?  Let us know on our Facebook page.

Unplug Your Devices and Enjoy Family Fun The Old Fashioned Way!

Pediatric Dentistry of Garden City & Glen Cove
Garden City:516-222-5100
Glen Cove: 516-759-7000

Some may not realize it, but technology can consume a lot of a person’s time. It is important to forget about your phone or game and enjoy the presence of another person, especially when that person is someone you love! Garden City Patch says unplugging is becoming a popular movement. So drop your tablets and enjoy some classic games with your family!

Instead of the old hide-and-seek try a game of Sardines! The idea of the game is for one person to hide and everyone else has to find the hider, or the sardine. As the seekers find the sardine they hide with him until only one is left.  The last one standing becomes the sardine.

Test everyone’s memorization skills with the game, “I went to the Store and Bought a…”. Say that line and in alphabetical order each player adds something. The trick is everyone has to repeat what was already said.

It goes without saying; Charades is such a fun and classic game to play. Gather the family and neighbors for a night of laughs!

Get unplugged with your family this winter, even if it’s just for a night!

Get Kids Excited About Healthy Teeth In The New Year!

Pediatric Dentistry of Garden City & Glen Cove

Lose weight and get fit top the chart of New Year's Resolutions each year, and they seldom ever get achieved.  This year, why not make your resolution to help encourage and motivate your child to keep their teeth healthy?  Here are some tips to keep them going all year long!

Make brushing fun.  Play a song, around 2 minutes in length, while they brush their teeth.  This will ensure they get a thorough brushing and have fun at the same time.  Another fun brushing tip is to let them choose their own toothbrush and toothpaste.  This gives them a sense of independence.

Buy a flavored floss.  Dental floss can be purchased in berry blast, winter mint, and even cupcake flavors.  If your little one is still a bit too young to floss properly, try floss picks that are especially made for kids, and of course, be present to help them in the process.

Find a pediatric dentist.  Pediatric dentists are specially certified to interact and cater to the needs of your child.  The offices are designed to be appealing to children which helps eliminate the fear of the dentist.

Good oral health leads to better general health and a greater quality of life for your child, making this a resolution you'll be sure to keep!

Snow Day Activities for Kids

With the blizzard on Long Island approaching, your kids might be having the day off. A snow day means snowmen and igloos, but they can’t stay outside all day. So for when your kids are stuck in the house give them some wholesome entertainment. KludgyMom.com has some fun ideas to give you and your kids a great snow day!

Play board games! You can spend hours on games you used to play as a child. Dust off the old boards and gather the family! Or make hide and seek a family affair and top it all off with a game of Charades.

Bake anything you might have in your house. You can look up quick recipes that you already have ingredients for.

A snow day is a great time to catch up with distant relatives. You and your kids can video chat your loved ones.

Build a fort and a pillow mountain. Grab all the blankets and pillows you have and camp out in your homemade fort. You could even play games in it too!

Have a rotating party! Each family member will be assigned to a room with different activities. One room can be designated for coloring while another can become a dance club.

Keeping Your Kids Active during the Winter

Pediatric Dentistry of Garden City & Glen Cove
Garden City:516-222-5100
Glen Cove: 516-759-7000

This holiday vacation keep your kids entertained with fun and healthy activities. Instead of them sitting on the couch all day get them up and active. The Cambridge News & The Independent has some great tips to keep your kids focused on health while still having fun.

Indulge in winter sports. Now is the only time of year to go outdoor ice-skating. You could even take a day trip to a local mountain and teach your kids how to snowboard or ski. Mountains even offer snow tubing for guaranteed fun.

Turn exercising into a family fun event. Turn on some music and dance. It’s a great way to burn calories and gets the whole family involved.

Visit a museum. Spend some fun and educational time at a local museum. You’re child will be up and walking throughout the day.

Be a role model. If you and the rest of the family are eating healthy then your child will too. Make experimenting with food fun and substitute desserts for more healthy alternatives. It is important not to force your kids to eat healthy. The more you push a food on them the less they will like it. Instead give them a variety of healthy options so they could choose which one they prefer.

Cooking healthy with your child is a great activity. It gives you more time together as well as teaches them important skills. The younger children can help measure ingredients while the older children can have more freedom cooking on their own.
