Are you looking for something to do with your children over this vacation week? Consider heading down to the Long Island Children’s Museum for a full day of fun for any age.

The Long Island Children’s Museum (LICM) is a hands-on museum for kids and their grownups. You’ll find places to play, learn and have fun – right here in Garden City!

The many galleries include Bricks and Sticks, where little ones can investigate, build and shape our three-dimensional world using a variety of building blocks and interactive software; Bubbles, where children can blur the boundary between play and experimentation as they step inside a giant bubble, blow bubbles within bubbles and make a giant bubble honeycomb; Changes & Challenges, where children can enter a house, school or outdoor environment and experience how people with differing abilities adapt to daily challenges and ClimbIt@LICM, where children can stretch their muscle and imagination while venturing through this two-story climbing structure and its meandering ramp.

There are special events being held this week due to the holiday break. Bring your children down on Wednesday, December 28th at 1 or 3pm in the theater to enjoy winning films from the 2011 Brooklyn Film Festival’s kidsfilmfest. On Thursday, December 29th and Friday, December 30th, Ben Rudnick and Friends presents “Holiday Fun,” where children can celebrate the holidays with a foot tapping sing-along featuring Ben Rudnick and Friends. Children can enjoy the energetic sounds of this award-winning rock and bluegrass ensemble as they put their unique spin on original classic holiday songs.

On Saturday, December 31 from noon to 4pm join the Long Island Children’s Museum for the Countdownto 12! Celebrate the New Yearin the tradition of New York’s famous Times Square with this animal-themed party in honor of the opening of the newest LICM gallery Feasts for Beasts.
